Thursday June 2nd
OK Comics, Thornton Arcade, off Briggate. LS1.
6 - 8pm.
Entrance is free!

Black Dogs Almanac Launch Party.

Black Dogs is an art group made out of Andy Abbott, Daniel Carey, Eleanor Johnson, Lawrence Molloy, Dave Ronalds and John Slight. For the last year and a bit they have put on exhibitions, done booze related party interventions, made public art works and written stuff. Now all of that is going to be put in to a 112 page book and published by Black Dogs. 1000 copies are being made. It includes documentation of past works, stories, pretty pictures, cut out and keeps, interactive mailorders, game ideas and lifestyle tips. And more. To celebrate there will be a launch that everyone is invited to at OK comics in the Thornton arcade (the one with Starbucks and Anne Summers at either end).

McWatt will provide some musical listenings, there will be a screening of Andy Abbott's 'How to build a fucking chimney' video and the best bit is that with every almanac purchased you get free booze. If you can't make the launch then almanacs will be available from OK Comics or by on-line order at www.black-dogs.org. Great!

Friday 10th June Holy Trinity Church
Boar Lane,Leeds.
8pm....£5

Tasty Fanzine Present.... Marissa Nadler + Lionshare + David Thomas Broughton + North Cross

Marissa Nadler: On stage, clad in black shawls and cascading tresses, Marissa Nadler performs with an intricate finger-style on the guitar, ukele, and 5-string banjo. Yet it is often her voice that is a shuttle towards another time, a soprano reverberating with melancholy and longing. From her earliest incarnations, Marissa appeared with music that was unique and gorgeous skillfully and simply hinting at the songs of the sea, the haunting chansons of maidens, the cowboy ditties of ranchers, and the funerary processions of mourners. www.marissanadler.com

Lionshare: 'With all the stately dolorousness of early Leonard Cohen, they combine guitar, cello, and melancholy with strong, quiet hands. Its beautiful, mood-swung, post-psych folk'. - The Wire www.lionshare.org.uk

David Thomas Broughton: 'British entrant into the New Weird Americana movement brings some freeform Animal Collective folk sounds to Leeds.' americana UK 'Remarkable, like a timeless classic or an obscure LP you discovered in a dusty second hand shop.' angryape.com www.birdwar.com

North Cross: Hailing from the wilds of Manchester, North Cross will be gracing the good people of Leeds with their presence, making a rare trip over the Pennines to play their own brand of hushed folk/country melodies and soundscapes. Truly beautiful stuff. More info at www.tastyfanzine.org.uk and reviewer guest list requests to gigs@tastyfanzine.org.uk.

TERA TORA is a brand new, shiny, clean band making their debut in Leeds. Containing members of THE MURDER OF… they smell like EX MODELS.

Hopefully SAILORS can play but I’ve not asked them. Great.
